A healthy mother and a healthful pregnancy give a baby a healthy start in life. Some health-related programs and services that are available for Delta residents to help with pregnancy, birth, the post-natal period and through infancy and preschool years are listed below. Dental ProgramDental consultation, screening, and fluoride varnish for children ages 10 months to 5 years. Speech and Language ProgramConsultation, speech-language assessment, therapy, and parent education. Pacific Post Partum Support Societywww.postpartum.org Offers telephone support to women, and their families, who are experiencing postpartum depression/anxiety, (also post adoption) as well as to women who are pregnant and experiencing emotional distress. Trained facilitators lead groups for mothers. Offers mother and infant talks, as well as information nights for partners. Conducts workshops, lectures, and training programs for interested groups and professionals. Serves the lower mainland. There are weekly support groups throughout the lower mainland and phone support hours 6 days per week. Healthiest Babies Possible (HBP)www.options.bc.ca The 'Healthiest Babies Possible' program is a health and lifestyle based program which provides support, education, information, connection and referrals for vulnerable pregnant women living in Surrey, Delta and White Rock. This program offers one-to-one home visits and support groups that include: a meal or snack, education about healthy babies and moms, childcare and social time. Grocery store gift certificates, bus tickets and prenatal vitamins are provided for those in financial need. All services are free, confidential and available in different languages. The HBP program works with women during pregnancy and until their baby is 6 months of age. Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH)604 940-7900 or 604 501-3237 for referrals. Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) provides community-based services to children, youth under the age of 19 and their families on a voluntary basis.
